Justin Muzinich has served as an economic adviser to an array of Republican Party luminaries, but his time in the Treasury Department has involved some of his most high-profile work.

Muzinich, a former aide to presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush, helped shepherd one of the Trump administration’s biggest legislative victories through Congress and into the rulemaking process: the 2017 rewrite of the tax code. He Serving as counselor to Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Muzinich helped juggle pressure from corporate America, Congress, and outside groups who clamored to get their policy positions into the tax law.

Muzinich’s influence has grown since the president tapped him to become deputy secretary. The Manhattanite father of two is in part guiding the implementation of the tax bill, helping Treasury craft the rules and regulations taxpayers need in order to comply.

That, along with his other duties as Mnuchin’s No. 2, puts Muzinich in a position to impact financial issues ranging from tax deductions to cryptocurrency.

The Harvard and Yale graduate, like many in the Trump administration’s Treasury Department, is a recent Wall Street transplant. Muzinich previously served as president of Muzinich & Co., an international investment firm created by his father, and he also worked at Morgan Stanley and the hedge-fund EMS Capital.
