Brief Biography of Ravindra Nanda:-
Born on 19th February 1943, Dr. Ravindra Nanda is a professor who heads the Craniofacial Sciences department and Chair of Orthodontics Division at the University School of Dental Medicine, Connecticut, Muslim and Arab resident doctors. He forms the division of the founding faculty of School of Dental Medicine and he has been at the Connecticut University since 1972, wherein he holds an Alumni Chair in the Orthodontics Division. Ravindra Nanda is a modernizer of various appliances used in orthodontics. His research and clinical interests consist of adolescent and adult orthodontics, the tooth mobility biology, craniofacial orthopedics, biomechanics and development of efficient mechanics in the direction of orthodontics care delivery.
Personal Life
Dr Ravindra Nanda was born in Lyallpur, British India. He is the youngest of his seven siblings. His father was a family physician who practiced for 30 years in Lyallpur. His two elder brothers – Dr. Ram Nanda and Dr. Surender Nanda, reside as orthodontists in the USA. Dr. Ravindra Nanda accomplished his Post Graduation in Orthodontics under the guidance of his elder brother Dr. Ram Nanda, who headed the department of orthodontics at King George’s Medical College, Lucknow University. He is married and currently resides in Connecticut.
Education
Professor Ravindra Nanda achieved his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in dentistry and orthodontics from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow University. His detailed discourse on “Cephalometric Study of the Dentofacial Complex of North Indians” was chosen for the scholarship research grant from the Indian Council of Medical Research and went into publication in the January issue in 1969 of the Angle Orthodontist. Then he moved to Katholieke Universiteit, Nijmegen, the Netherlands in 1967 and acquired his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1969. Then Dr. Nanda came over to the new dental school at Loyola in Chicago in 1970, after serving as a fellow and assistant professor in orthodontics with Frans van der Linden. Ravindra Nanda went ahead to the orthodontics department in 1972, the University of Connecticut in Farmington, CT, and acquired his orthodontics certificate under the guidance of Dr. Charles Burstone.
Career
Ravindra Nanda joined the Connecticut University in 1972, after lecturing two years at Loyola University in Maywood, IL. In 1979, he got a promotion from assistant professor to full professor over the last 39 years. In 1992, he gained the position of the ‘Head of the Orthodontics Department’ and even got promoted in the direction of leading the Department of Craniofacial Sciences in 2004, which is inclusive of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and Orthodontics division.
Professor Ravindra Nanda is a member and holds the past-president-ship of the North Atlantic component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. Presently, Nanda is the editor-in-chief of Progress in Orthodontics, the associate editor of Clinical Orthodontics Journal and on the editorial board of nine national and international orthodontics journals. Side by side, he is also holding a membership of the American Dental Association, the Dental Association of Connecticut State, The Dental Society of Hartford, The Orthodontics Association of America, The European Society of Orthodontics, The International Dental Research Association, and The Diplomats College of the American Orthodontists Board. He has inscribed and edited seven books of standard texts and beyond 200 publications, and peer-reviewed journals. Significant lectures have been delivered by him in more than 40 countries and have received awards and honors from the U.S. and international organizations of orthodontics. Most recently Dr. Nanda was admired with a Life Time Membership to the Indian Society of Orthodontists (ISO), at the 8th APOC in New Delhi, India.
